It has now been ten days since the Stark Street Bridge was closed, due to a partial collapse of some of the supporting rock and concrete. The closure was clearly necessary, but we have not gotten any updated information since. The approaches to the bridge do not have sufficient signage to allow drivers to detour well in advance.
This is just another example of how our dysfunctional county government operates.
For those unfamiliar with the bridge, it is one of three bridges connecting rural East Multnomah County with the urbanized part of the county. It is heavily traveled, and the main detour brings traffic through downtown Troutdale, causing congestion. The people who live in the area deserve some kind of communication about what measures are being taken to repair the bridge, and what the timeline looks like for its reopening. Finally, Multnomah County Road Services needs to post some advance signage in both directions to warn drivers of the closure.
